(BLOG) I didn’t find what I needed at CVS

It’s around 7:30pm. You step out of work to go to CVS for some stuff, you’ve got about 45 minutes give or take and you aren’t being paid. One of the students hurries up to your car as you pull out and taps on your window. You roll it down to find out that the people he had depended on let him down and he had no way of getting home. He is very polite and asks for a lift as of course he doesn’t want to walk. What do you do? … well if you’re me you say no problem and drive the kid home. He thanks you a million times and is completely respectful to your car and you giving up your time. That’s the end? no it’s not the ending.. You go back to work, finish with your last student and get ready to leave.

Then you get fired.. for doing what any human being with even half a heart would have done. I’d do the same thing again 10 times out of 10 and not think twice. Liability? What ifs? yeah well ‘what if’ I ignored him and the kid walked home and got hit by a car, shot, kidnapped.. the worst part? as we got closer to where he lived he pointed out a small wooded area by a bridge that he mentioned it’s where KKK members meet up at night.. and I should’ve let him walk home?! Then what gets held liable? My morals, my values, my beliefs, my conscience.. Those are far more important than any part time job , or any boss, even one who considers himself a Christian. That phrase.. “what would Jesus do?”.. is it a cliche? yes.. but does that mean we should stop asking?
